CB division number
The prefix on citizen band
Every year in the period between May and September, it is possible to listen to numerous international CB radio stations with good signals, in the portion of frequencies between 27 and 28MHz, with greater concentration around 27.500kHz.
The first thing you notice is that the “radio callsigns” do not follow the IARU standard, they always start with a number (from 1 to 349), followed by a couple of letters, and then by other numbers. Example 1XX000.
- The first number indicates the country
- The letters indicate the club to which they belong
- Then the unique final number indicates the station.
In the CB band, DX calls take place slightly differently than the classic radio amateur procedure. Another difference with respect to the radio amateur world lies in the fact that in CB there is a call frequency: 27.555kHz where calls are made, usually in USB; the caller pronounces his callsign CB and also indicates the frequency where he will move to complete the connection.
